Despite being extremely tied up, celebrities just like us tend to take out time for their health and fitness. Kriti Sanon is no different. The Mimi actor’s fitness trainer Karan Sawhney posted a video of Sanon in the gym where she can be seen performing dumbbell lunges like a pro. “Being a good student,” wrote Sawhney on his Instagram Stories to which Sanon responded, “Always”.
Lunge is an exercise of the legs that not only transforms your lower body but also challenges your core stability and balance.
“Stationary lunges are the basic ones. The variation with weighted dumbbells is called stationary weighted lunge which is a compound exercise that involves various muscle groups and joints,” said fitness expert Garima Goyal.
These include:
Hamstrings – The big muscle group at the back of the legs is known as the hamstrings that get activated while you are bending your knee or moving your hip. Hamstrings need to be strong for an athletic physique, and good posture to prevent injuries.
Glutes – Healthy glutes imply easy walking, running, or stair climbing. “Stronger glutes help to keep the hips in line, thus preventing injuries to the lower back and lower body,” said Goyal.
Quadriceps – One of the major muscle groups of the body is the quadriceps which keep the knees stable and enable standing.
Hip flexors – Not only the legs but hip flexors are also strengthened with the help of lunges.
Stationary lunge involves a complex activity of quads, hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors for the overall strength of the lower body. Therefore, it takes care of muscle imbalances. “While performing a stationary lunge, you use one side of your body. Being a unilateral exercise makes it a safe and efficient way to work muscles. This improves your bilateral performance and reduces the chances of injury,” Goyal said.
Involves the core too. “Stationary dumbbell lunge makes use of the core and spine to stabilise the body for preventing falls. So not only the lunges involve the leg muscles, the core is activated too for maintaining balance, posture and spine stability,” Goyal mentioned.
It helps in fat loss. According to Goyal, building up lean muscle mass and boosting the body’s metabolism is very easily achieved by stationary dumbbell lunge. “This aids in weight loss by gaining muscle and losing fat,” said Goyal.
