Whether it’s spin classes when she’s on the road, biking near the Delaware beach home or jogging on the White House’s driveway, First Lady of the US Jill Biden says that she gains “inner strength” from exercise.
Jill’s dedication to her fitness is evident in her diverse workout routine, which she revealed to the Women’s Health magazine recently. An avid fan of barre classes that are a mix of ballet, Pilates and yoga, the first lady’s commitment to her fitness helps her achieve improved flexibility, strength and balance.
She also rides the Peloton bike — a high-energy cardio exercise, which allows her to sweat it out from the comfort of her own home or even when she’s on the road due to official visits.
Most days she gets out of bed at 5:45 am to fit exercise into her schedule. She told the magazine that early morning workouts are the times when she can focus on herself. “I need to be with myself and find inner strength so I can be strong for everyone else.”

In addition to this, the 72-year-old is also a long-time runner who completed the Marine Corps Marathon in 1998. However, nowadays she opts for jogging around the White House driveway because of the security protocols in place for her safety.
She is also often seen leaving SoulCycle studios after workouts in Washington or when she is travelling. She and Akshata Murty, wife of British PM Rishu Sunak, went to a class together during her trip to London in May for the coronation of King Charles III.
When Sunak met President Joe Biden, he said, “I gather our wives have even started to take spin classes together.”
Nonetheless, exercise has always been a vital part of Jill’s life since she was a kid who enjoyed roller skating. She even took up ice skating in college and swimming when she was pregnant with her daughter Ashley.
In her memoir, she wrote that she kept a pair of running shoes by the front door of their house in Wilmington, Delaware, when Ashley was only a teenager.
“Whenever she and I would get into an argument, I’d put on those shoes to go running and calm myself down,” she wrote. “We argued so much, I became a marathon runner.”
That’s not all. Apart from her rigorous exercise routine, she also maintains a healthy diet that complements her active lifestyle. Having a preference for fish and vegetables, her balanced diet helps her stay energised and focused through her busy schedule.
On days when she is teaching English and writing classes at Northern Virginia Community College, she carries her own lunch to avoid eating outside food — ensuring she consumes nutritious food while on the go.
While exercise nurtures her mental and physical well-being, making her a strong support for her family and community, her wholesome diet helps her stay active and fit.
