Serena Williams, Alexis Ohanian welcome second child; a timeline of their relationship

Congratulations are in order for Serena Williams and her tech entrepreneur husband Alexis Ohanian as they welcomed their second baby, a baby girl, on Tuesday. “Welcome, Adira River Ohanian,” the new dad wrote on Instagram, sharing a picture with the tennis icon and their two daughters.

“I’m grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy and healthy newborn girl and a happy and healthy mama. Feeling grateful. @serenawilliams you’ve now given me another incomparable gift — you’re the GMOAT. Thanks to all the amazing medical staff who took care of my wife and our daughter. I’ll never forget the moment I introduced @olympiaohanian to her baby sister,” Ohanian wrote further.

He concluded his post with a quote: “Your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.”

Relationship timeline

Serena and Alexis, who are now parents to two beautiful little girls, reportedly met for the first time in May 2015 over breakfast in Rome. At the time, the tennis star asked the Reddit co-founder to sit with her and her friends. This was followed by an invite to watch her compete in the 2015 French Open.

However, their first date happened prior to the match as the duo explored Paris together. Over the next few months, Ohanian was seen cheering for her from the stands multiple times.

“I never watched a match on television or in real life. I really had no respect for tennis,” he told Vanity Fair earlier.

In December 2016, Ohanian popped the question in the same spot they first met, the Cavalieri Hotel. Williams opened up about her engagement with a poem posted on Reddit.

“I came home. A little late. Someone had a bag packed for me. And a carriage waited. Destination: Rome. To escort me to my very own ‘charming.’ Back to where our stars first collided. And now it was full circle. At the same table, we first met by chance. But by choice. Down on knee. He said 4 words. And I said yes,” she wrote.

The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr on September 1, 2017. Almost 11 weeks later, they tied the knot at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans on November 16.

In May this year, Williams and Ohanian announced their second pregnancy on the red carpet of the 2023 Met Gala. “Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala,” Williams wrote.
