Alia Bhatt made her much-speculated appearance at the Met Gala — and she hands down owned the look. For her second stint on the Met (green and white) carpet, the Gangubai Kathiawadi actor opted for a custom sari by designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

“…when I thought of the dress code, I realised that it needed something timeless. And there’s nothing more timeless than a sari,” she told Vogue before walking the carpet.

Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, Alia was seen in a pastel blue sheer sari hand embroidered with delicate floral motifs using “silk floss, glass beading, and semi-precious gemstones” — perfectly encapsulating the theme for the mega event this year: The Garden of Time.

Sharing details about the bespoke creation, that featured a 23-foot-long train, Alia revealed that it took almost “1965 man hours and 163 craftsmen” to make the exquisite sari. “Let me get this number right as it is extremely important when you talk about craftsmanship…”, she told the outlet.

The actor’s look was completed with a pair of statement gemstone earrings, a mathapatti, multiple rings. For hair, she opted for a messy bun, which beautifully complemented her glam, yet subtle, makeup.

Last year, for her debut look, Alia was seen in a white sleeveless dress adorned with pearls by ace designer Prabal Gurung, styled with fingerless gloves and the bow of pearls on her sleekly styled hair.

Sharing details of her look on X, she wrote: A girl can never have too many pearls… and the right accessories to complement the look which in our case translated to the bow of pearls on my hair. Oh, and it’s white, for my Choup-ED🐱.”

She added that she “wanted to do something that felt authentic” and “proudly made in India.” Her caption continued, “The embroidery, made with a 100,000 pearls is a labour of love by @prabalgurung. I’m so proud to wear you for my first Met.”
