India Couture Week (ICW) 2023, organised by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), is currently underway in Delhi’s Taj Palace with ace designers presenting the best of Indian fashion on the runway. On day 5 of the fashion extravaganza, designers Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna showcased their collection Equinox.
“Mesmerised by the enchanting balance between day and night, we embarked on an extraordinary journey to weave the essence of this celestial magic into our upcoming AW23 collection,” the designer’s Instagram post read. “Each garment in the collection transforms into a wearable celestial masterpiece, meticulously crafted lookalikes to the constellations that grace the night sky during the Equinox.”
Actors Sobhita Dhulipala and Ishaan Khatter turned showstoppers for the men’s and women’s couture collection. The official Instagram page of FDCI shared photos from Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna’s show. While Sobhita was decked up in a modern silver lehenga, Ishaan made a dapper appearance in an embellished power suit.

Sobhita turned up the heat as she walked the runway in a silver heavily-embellished modern lehenga from the designer’s collection, paired with a strappy bralette blouse featuring a plunging neckline, sequins, a cropped midriff-baring hem and a fitted bust.

She styled the ensemble with a sheer dupatta, strappy heels, bracelets and multiple rings. With her tresses done in a side-parted sleek hairdo, she opted for glossy makeup to seal the look.
Meanwhile, Ishaan Khatter looked suave in an all-black suit from the duo’s latest collection. He went shirtless on the runway, only wearing a tailored black blazer and matching black satin pants. His blazer was adorned with intricate shimmering embroidery, notch lapel collars, padded shoulders and front button closure.

He accessorised the outfit with a quirky embellished black necktie and black loafers. Lastly, a side-parted wavy hairdo, trimmed beard and rings gave the finishing touches to his look.
On the same night, designer Tarun Tahiliani presented his collection ‘For Eternity’, an ode to the quest of making timelessness in craft, couture and art, eternal.
“We live in a world where everything happens a million frames a second, and our connection with time-honoured traditions ebbs and flows, but it is often lost. That connection beckons time and again yet something beautiful happens when we lean into the voice of tradition—it anchors us in meaning,” he captioned his post.

Through couture, Tahiliani aims to essay a renewed vision that echoes the true essence of the “Indian Modern Women” and “The New Man”. He chose to have no celebrity showstoppers for the show remarking that “it’s time to return to the only star that should be on the ramp, and that is the clothes”.
That’s not all! The fashion week also saw designer JJ Valaya wow the audience with his new collection ‘Baroda’ on day 4. The latest collection is a medley of exquisite craftsmanship of Gujarat and global style statements.
According to the collection note, the range comprises three chapters. In the first chapter (Art Deco), the collection traverses a fusion based on the craft of lippan, interpreted in a medley of art deco lines and Mughal inlay motifs. The second chapter (Nomade) presents modern avatars of Kutch motifs and mirror work. The final chapter (Royale) features the age-old Mashru fabric of Gujarat being mixed with patterns inspired by Portuguese Azulejos tiles.

Talking about his collection, Valaya told ANI, “I think in the end it is all what you see and how you see it. To me, today was a celebration of a very tricky past of Gujarat where influence from the Mughal empire, the Maratha empire and Portuguese come together and we created a new sub-language, but more than anything it was a celebration of the grand Indian wedding.”
Valaya told PTI that it took him eight months to put together the complete collection. “It is a lot of effort. It took 8 months to create this, from research to putting it all together. Let’s just say that after 8 months of hard work, we have to put something together for a 25-minute presentation, and for the beautiful, vibrant season that follows. So, it is all based on Gujarat and various fashions of it.”
ICW 2023 will conclude on August 2.
