(File image) A total of 6028 faculty positions currently lie vacant at the central universities in the country. Moreover, 4526 faculty posts at IITs and 496 posts at IIMs also remain unfilled, c, Minister of Education informed the Parliament on Wednesday.
“Ministry of Education has directed all the central higher educational institutions to fill up the vacancies in Mission Mode, and so far more than 6000 posts of faculty/non-faculty have been filled up,” the minister said.
Furthermore, 7 IITs, 22 NITs and 20 IIITs currently have a vacant position of Chairperson, Board of Governors (BoGs). However, the charge of the position of Chairperson, BoGs in these 7 IITs is assigned to the Chairperson, BoGs of other IITs with due approval of the Visitor of the Institute.
At NITs, the Director of the NIT concerned discharge the functions assigned to the Chairperson, BoGs of the Institute till a new Chairperson, BoGs is nominated while at IIITs the charge is either given to the Chairperson, BoGs of other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions or by extending the tenure of existing incumbent or by assigning the charge to the senior echelons of the central or state government, the Parliament was informed.
