Tripura woman uses derogatory words against Agartala Mayor on social media, booked

Dipak Majumder has been serving as the Mayor of the Agartala Municipal Corporation since 2021 and concurrently holding the position of MLA from Ramnagar Assembly constituency since 2023.

Agartala mayor Dipak Majumder was allegedly abused by a woman on social media.

A group of corporators of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Friday filed a complaint at the West Agartala police station against a woman for allegedly using derogatory words against Mayor Dipak Majumder, the video of which went viral on social media.

The police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the woman, identified as Madhabi Biswas, a resident of Jogendra Nagar, on Saturday.

A corporator said, “The woman used derogatory words against our mayor on social media. We cannot take this. We filed a complaint against her and demanded strict action against her”.

“As the residence of the accused is under East Agartala Women’s police station, the case will be referred to the police station concerned,” said a police officer from West Agartala Police Station.
