Forty-nine wagons of petrol and diesel were sent to the state after Tripura started rationing at all fuel pumps on May 1. The freight train crossed the Jatinga Lumpur-New Harangajao section—where restrictions had been imposed following landslides—in Assam’s mountainous Dima Hasao district on May 11. The route is the connecting link between south Assam, Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram.
Passenger and goods trains had been affected by heavy landslides and subsequent damage of railway tracks in Dima Hasao district since April 25.
Chief Minister Manik Saha had taken up the issue with Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
As the crisis intensified, a series of protests and attempts of vandalism as well as incidents of lathicharge were reported from different parts of the state.
