(Image: X/@PradyotManikya)Three months after the initial round of discussions regarding the implementation of the tripartite Tiprasa accord, TIPRA Motha has announced that the second round of talks is scheduled for December 3.
The Tiprasa accord was signed by the ruling alliance partner TIPRA Motha, the Centre, and the state government of Tripura to find an “honourable solution” for the issues faced by the state’s tribal population.
Taking to social media, TIPRA Motha founder and royal scion-turned-politician Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma wrote, “Been informed that the second round of talks on the TIPRASA accord will take place on the 3rd of December. I am happy to inform that this is the second official meeting in the one and half months….”
Debbarma emphasised that TIPRASA’s future must remain secure, and he is committed to prioritising our community’s agenda over any political favours.
“…We have to realise that growth of our region and people has to be more important than rehabilitation of a few leaders,” he said.
The TIPRA Motha signed the tripartite Tiprasa accord with the Government of India and the state government of Tripura on March 4. However, the Lok Sabha elections and the associated code of conduct were announced shortly after, temporarily halting the process. The results of the Lok Sabha polls were declared on June 4. Soon after, the peace accord with the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) was signed.
In September this year, six months after signing the tripartite Tiprasa Accord, a delegation of TIPRA Motha led by Pradyot Kishore joined the first round of talks of the Joint Working Group (JWG) in New Delhi for implementation of the accord. It said a “historical process” had started for solutions to problems faced by tribal people of the state.
Pradyot also said that all stakeholders in the dialogue had agreed to meet every two months to expedite the problem-resolution process. He took to social media on September 17 on the issue and said, “I have received a letter from the state government and another letter came from the MHA saying that a notification was issued about forming a Joint Working Group (JWG) to oversee discussions about implementing the accord.”
The committee is chaired by AK Mishra, the Northeast Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). It includes Pradyot Kishore, B K Hrangkhawl, the president of TIPRA Motha, the Tripura Home Secretary, the Tripura Tribal Welfare Secretary, and the Secretary for Northeast Affairs at the MHA.
“I also received a second letter from MHA that said the first meeting of JWG in pursuance of the tripartite agreement was scheduled on September 20 in New Delhi. This is for the first round of talks. We have been waiting for it. We have decided to go to Delhi and talk about Constitutional eights, political rights, economic rights, future of our children,” Pradyot Kishore had informed his supporters.

However, the leaders advised the state’s tribal population to prepare for a lengthy phase of discussions, noting that the talks would not easily resolve the issues.
