Who are contesting? In Jubilee Hills, the contest is between BRS candidate Maganti Sunita Gopinath, BJP’s L Deepak Reddy, and Congress nominee Naveen Yadav, who has the backing of Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM. In Nuapada, Jay Dholakia, son of former MLA Rajendra Dholakia, is contesting on a BJP ticket, while the BJD has fielded its women’s wing chief Snehangini Chhuria. Veteran tribal leader Ghasiram Majhi represents the Congress. Eleven other candidates are also in the fray in Nuapada.

What necessitated the bypolls: The Jubilee Hills seat fell vacant following the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June, while the Nuapada bypoll was necessitated by the death of sitting BJD legislator and former minister Rajendra Dholakia. The outcomes of both contests are being closely watched as indicators of regional political trends in Telangana and Odisha.
Congress candidate V Naveen Yadav on Friday won the by-election to Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency here, defeating his nearest BRS rival Maganti Sunitha by a margin of over 24,000 votes.
Yadav secured 98,988 votes, while the BRS nominee got 74,259 votes.
BJP candidate Lankala Deepak Reddy, who managed to get only 17,061 votes, forfeited his security deposit.
The posters at Gandhi Bhavan, the Congress’s headquarters in Hyderabad, featured Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s image with a line, “Thaggedele (jhukega nahi)”, from Allu Arjun’s film “Pushpa”. Naveen Yadav’s home in Jubilee Hills also displayed huge cutouts of Revanth Reddy and state party president B Mahesh Kumar Goud.

As of 2pm, BJP's Jay Dholakia leads by a margin of 56,819 votes from Nuapada constituency, according to the ECI website.
Naveen Yadav of the Congress party now leads by 19,797 votes in the Jubilee Hills constituency, according to the ECI website.
Meanwhile in Nuapada, Jay Dholakia of the BJP maintains a lead of 43,234 votes, leaving Snehangini Chhuria of the Biju Janata Dal and Congress' Ghasi Ram Majhi in the dust.
Naveen Yadav of the Congress Party continues to lead (by 6,012 votes) from Jubilee Hills constituency.

As per Election Commission of India, Naveen Yadav V of the Congress is leading by just 47 votes, with Maganti Sunitha on the trail as of 9.41am.
At Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad for the ruling Congress, the election is being viewed as a test of the people’s faith in Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy government, while for the BRS, it is being seen as a battle for survival. For the BJP, the bypoll serves as a platform to set the narrative in its favour in a state where it is keen to expand its footprint amid the Congress and BRS accusing each other of being its “B-team.”
Currently, BJP’s Jay Dholakia leading by 4,904 in Nuapada, Odisha, according to the ECI website.
Congress' Naveen Yadav takes lead of over 1,000 votes, at the end of the second round of counting. Yadav and BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha are at the counting centre.
At the end of first round of counting, Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi are neck-and-neck.
8,926 for Congress and 8,864 BRS
While electors seek basic amenities such as clean drinking water, housing, and roads in the constituency, which lies in the heart of Hyderabad and is a mix of plush neighbourhoods and slums, the bypoll has become a prestige battle for the three parties involved. The Jubilee Hills seat, which includes high-profile voters such as Telugu film stars, will vote on Tuesday, with the results to be announced three days later.
District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Nuapada Collector Madhusudan Dash said the counting of postal ballots was underway. The counting of votes in EVMs will start from 8.30 am at 14 tables. There will be 26 rounds of vote counting, he said.
The Nuapada by-election has achieved an outstanding voter turnout of 83.45 per cent, which was the highest among the eight bypolls held in India on November 11.
As many as 14 candidates are in the fray.

Amid tight security, counting of votes in the by-election for Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency, crucial for the ruling Congress government and also BRS, began on Friday with officials taking up postal ballots first.
The counting process would be taken up in 10 rounds.
The officials said 48.49 per cent of votes were cast on November 11 when the polling was held. The total number of eligible voters was 4.01 lakh, while 1.94 lakh voters exercised their franchise.

The run-up to the election has been heated and has essentially turned into a fight among the bigwigs of the three major players: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of the Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K T Rama Rao, and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy of the BJP.
