TDP MP: Andhra revenue-deficit, need Centre’s help to roll out G RAM G
“We welcome the change,” he said, “but we also want to make a statement here with regard to Andhra Pradesh.” Highlighting economic challenges faced by the state, TDP MP said the state has been in revenue deficit since 2014 after the “unscientific bifurcation”.
Based on recommendations, feedback, and monitoring outcomes, the government has proposed increasing guaranteed employment from 100 to 125 days, he said.

NDA constituent TDP Wednesday sought Central support to roll out the proposed Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) or VB-G RAM G Bill, which, once enacted into a law, will replace MGNREGA.
Participating in the discussion on the Bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, TDP member Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu welcomed the change in the rural job scheme, which he said was needed because the aspirations of the people and the economy has seen a transformation. “… The need for the change in the scheme is mainly because poverty has gone down from 25% in 2011-12 to 4.8% in 2023-24,” he said.

“We have come to his House and explained the situation of Andhra’s financial position,” he said.
After the TDP came into power, the government, with support from Centre, ministries concerned, and PM Narendra Modi, made “92 centrally-sponsored schemes from 2019 to 2024 which were defunct”, perform well and function.
“Andhra Pradesh is a revenue-deficit state… When we have to cough up 40% from the side of the state to fund the scheme, we request the same amount of support that has been extended by the Central government for one and half years so that the scheme can be implemented well in the state,” he said.
He also suggested strengthening legal provisions to prevent fraud under the scheme, increasing the number of technical assistants, indexation of wages to the CPI of the rural sector, focus on creation of durable assets, and independent social audit bodies.
