Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Wednesday in Lok Sabha that a number of Opposition MPs in both Houses had asked the same question in exactly the same words, and that this was a matter of concern. This came after BSP MP Ritesh Pandey asked a him question on net neutrality.
Vaishnaw said Muraleedharan and Vincent H Pala, Congress members in the Lower House, as well as Digvijaya Singh of the Congress and Priyanka Chaturvedi of the Shiv Sena, in the Rajya Sabha, had posed the same query.
Responding to the minister, Pandey said this was not a violation of any rule, and that the Questions Department of the House says that if three or four members ask the same question, the chances of its being taken up are higher. He said this is the reason members sometimes share questions.
Vaishnaw said the net neutrality principle is well established in India while replying to queries about a proposal to levy network usage charges from OTT (over-the-top) entities.
Responding to Gaurav Gogoi’s charge that a couple of companies are dominating the market, Vaishnaw brought up the 2G “scam” and said the telecom sector, particularly BSNL, was spoiled by the UPA government.
