Sources in Madhubani said the “intemperate and indecent” language used by Choudhary could have landed him in trouble.
Madhubani RJD vice-president Sachin Kumar Choudhary was arrested by the district police for making “objectionable and derogatory” comments against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Choudhary was arrested on October 25, but the matter came to light only on Tuesday after he was forwarded to the IT Cell, Patna.
The RJD leader had reportedly posted a video as well as a written message in which he criticised the “failure” of the Nitish Kumar government’s prohibition law and the “easy availability of liquor” despite the ban on alcohol.
The posts are no longer available online. Though their exact content is not known, sources in Madhubani said the “intemperate and indecent” language used by Choudhary could have landed him in trouble.
Jaynagar Deputy Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar confirmed the arrest, saying the RJD leader’s posts had been “very defamatory” and warranted police action under provisions of the IT Act and IPC provisions. Jaynagar police station in-charge S A Sarang added that the RJD leader had been arrested from Barhi village.
RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tewari told The Indian Express, “Though I have not seen our Madhubani leader’s posts, the arrest shows intolerance on part of the NDA government. CM Nitish Kumar is perhaps upset at RJD taking away its two seats in the recently held Assembly bypolls.”
