Normal life remained paralysed for the second consecutive day as people observed a spontaneous strike on Wednesday to protest against the killing of a teenager in teargas shelling on Sunday.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and transport kept off the roads in the summer capital even though no organisation had given a call for the strike today,officials said.

Some youths pelted stones at vehicles in Batmaloo,Maisuma and Natipora in uptown and several other areas of old city,they said,adding,police had to batoncharge and use teargas shells to dispersed them.

Meanwhile,markets on Wednesday opened in other districts,a day after strike called by several separatist organizations including both factions of Hurriyat conference.

The strike was called to protest against the death of 13-year-old Wamik Farooq,a resident of Rainawari locality,who was hit by a teargas shell on his head at Rajouri kadal during a clash between police and a mob on Sunday.

Farooq later succumbed at Soura Medical institute.

At least 100 people,including 30 police and paramilitary personnel,were injured in the clashes between stone-pelting youths and law enforcing agencies in the city in past two days.
