Backing the Congress-led UPA at the Centre,JMM President Shibu Soren on Monday advocated fresh assembly elections in President’s rule-bound Jharkhand.
“The JMM has been with the UPA and will continue to be with the coalition both at the Centre and the state,” Soren, who is one of the two JMM candidates to have won the Lok Sabha elections, told newsmen here.
Favouring immediate dissolution of the Jharkhand assembly, the former Chief Minister said he would go to Delhi and talk to Congress President Sonia Gandhi in this regard.
After Soren had quit as the Chief Minister following his loss in the Tamar assembly by-poll in January, the state came under President’s rule on January 19 with the house being kept in suspended animation.
Soren has won both the Dumka Lok Sabha seat and the Jamtara assembly by-poll,setting aside his bitter defeat in the Tamar by-poll at the hands of lightweight Gopal Krishna Patar.
When asked whether the JMM would join the government,Soren said “Soniaji had earlier assured the JMM of allotment of ministerial berths,” apparently referring to the Congress and the JMM talks during the July 22 trust vote last year.
