Nityananda quits ashram post sex scandal

Self-styled godman Swami Nityananda, who was purportedly caught in a sleazy video footage, announced his decision to resign as head of his ashram.

Caught on tape in a compromising position with a top actress of yesteryears,Swami Nithyananda has decided to go on a spiritual seclusion for indefinite time, stepping down as the head of the Dhyanapeetam which he found.

In his epistle to devotees issued through the website of the organisation,Nithyananda said he had met some of the leading ‘acharyas’ of Hindu Dharma at Haridwar and discussed the recent developments that now has him on the run.

“Briefing them about what is fact and what is fiction, and candidly discussing what had happened,I had sought their spiritual and moral support, guidance for me,and their views on the future course of Dhyanapeetam.”

Nithyananda declared that he has decided to lead a life of spiritual seclusion for indefinite time,a suggestion that the acharyas agreed in principle.

“…to enable the Dhyanapeetam to function with such amended agenda as may be necessary,I am resigning as the head of the Dhyanapeetam and from all the trusts associated with it. A board of trustees consisting from sadhakas of the Dhyanapeetam who are non-controversial,will henceforth manage the Dhyanapeetam,” he said in his message that was posted on the website late on Monday night.

The members of the newly-formed trust would seek counsel and go by the advice of the acharyas,he said.

The young swami, one the run since the hidden camera sting that exposed his private life that contradicted his assertions and advices, claimed he would return whenever required and talk about all that had happened “in a less prejudiced atmosphere”.

After becoming one of the most popular godmen in the recent past at a very young age,Nithyananda is now facing retribution set off by the sleaze tape with him and actress Ranjitha, which was recorded by a ‘disciple’ Nithya Dharmanada alias K Lenin.

Hearing a petition seeking to transfer the case to CBI,the Madras High Court has asked Lenin to furnish all evidences to the court on April 5.
