Maisuma firing: Cop suspended,inquiry ordered

A police constable has been suspended and an inquiry ordered into the firing in Maisuma locality.

A police constable has been suspended and an inquiry ordered into the firing in Maisuma locality of the city that left five persons injured.

“An inquiry has been initiated to know the facts which led to this incident and one police constable has been suspended”,police said in a statement here on Tuesday.

Police sources alleged that the cop Feroz Ahmad working as personal security officer of the Station House Officer of Maisuma police Station had opened fire without the orders of the SHO on Monday.

According to police,some protestors violated the restrictions on movement of people in Maisuma chowk and indulged in pelting stones at security forces in which two constables were injured.

Following this,security forces opened fire,they said.

Meanwhile,the opposition PDP has expressed grief over the death of a youth in firing by security forces in Anantnag and condemned the firing in Maisuma in the city which resulted in injuries to five persons yesterday.

In a statement,PDP President Mehbooba Mufti alleged that the incidents indicated that there was “total anarchy” in the state.

A youth was killed and nine others were injured when security forces opened fire to disperse a stone pelting mob in Anantnag district of south Kashmir last evening while five protesters were wounded in another police firing at Maisuma in the city.
