Home Guard killed as unidentified youths fire at police picket

A Home Guard was killed and a police constable was seriously injured when unidentified persons opened fire at a police picket in Falaknuma 'basti' area.

A Home Guard was killed and a police constable was seriously injured when unidentified persons opened fire at a police picket in Falaknuma basti area on Monday evening. Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao said that Home Guard G Swamy succumbed at the government hospital. Constable T Rajendra is battling for life after suffering multiple bullet injuries. Today is the second anniversary of the Mecca Masjid blasts in which nine persons were killed. Five others were killed when police opened fire to control an angry mob immediately after the blast.

Police officials suspect that some disgruntled youths of Falaknuma area who were angry with police for not being able to crack the case may have opened fire on the police picket. There is also a lot of anger in the Muslim community because at least 30 youths were kept in illegal custody and tortured after the twin blasts on August 25,2007.
