CUJ demand: Protests continue in Jammu

15 universities announced along with CUJ have already started functioning: Vipin

Protests to demand the functioning of proposed Central University of Jammu continued on Tuesday in the region with a fringe group calling for a bandh on August 17. “We call for Jammu bandh on August 17 in protest against the failure of state government to make CUJ functional by appointing Vice-Chancellor immediately,” Hindu Shiv Sena chairman Vipin Hindu said.

He appealed to the people to take part in the bandh so that a message is given to the government that Jammu region cannot remain mute spectator to discrimination on the issue.

“All the 15 universities which were announced along with the CUJ,including Central University in Kashmir,have started functioning in the past two years,” he said.

Continuing its agitation,National Panthers Students Union activists clashed with police at Jammu University after holding a protest.

Police prevented the students to hold demos at the campus resulting in clash. Students of GGM Science College,MAM College,Jammu University and some schools boycotted classes and held protest demonstrations in support of the demand for CUJ.

All Jammu and Kashmir Sikh Intellectual Circle (SIC) also demanded appointment of VC to make CUJ functional at the earliest.

Meanwhile,the hunger-strike of Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF) activists for the CUJ entered the ninth day on Tuesday
