Contractor killed by Maoists in Orissa

Police officials in the district said this morning some Maoists shot dead Chitta Ray,a contractor at MV-69 village.

A day after they killed a forester in Nuapada district of Orissa,Maoists struck again this morning in southern Orissa district of Malkangiri killing a contractor on suspicion of he being a police informer.

Police officials in the district said this morning some Maoists shot dead Chitta Ray,a contractor at MV-69 village under Kalimela police station area of the district. “We have found some posters near the spot where they accused the contractor of being a police informer,” said an official of Kalimela police station. Malkangiri SP Aniruddha Singh said more forces have been sent to the area. The killing came on the last day of the week-long bandh called by the rebels to protest Operation Green Hunt.

On Thursday,the Maoists had shot dead a 54-year-old forester in Sunabeda wildlife sanctuary of Nuapara district.

Despite the presence of 2 battalions of BSF and a battalion of Special Operation Group of Orissa Police since last 4 weeks,security personnel have not been able to make major roads of the district accessible. The roads from Malkangiri and Chitrakonda is under siege from Maoists. Meanwhile,aerial reconnissance operations are on in the district before the onset of a major anti-Maoist operation on Orissa-Chhatisgarh border.
