Protests continue to stall House proceedings

In the Lok Sabha, soon after the House assembled at 11 am, some Opposition members threw torn papers at the Chair for the second day in a row. Some of them, dressed in black, were seen standing in the Well, while one MP was also seen trying to put a black cloth on the table of the Chair.

PROCEEDINGS OF both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha remained affected by disruptions on Tuesday as Opposition MPs continued to protest, demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the Adani issue while also decrying the disqualification of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as MP.

In the Lok Sabha, soon after the House assembled at 11 am, some Opposition members threw torn papers at the Chair for the second day in a row. Some of them, dressed in black, were seen standing in the Well, while one MP was also seen trying to put a black cloth on the table of the Chair.

Within a few minutes, YSR Congress Party member P V Midhun Reddy, who was the presiding officer, adjourned the House till 2 pm. After the House reconvened, as there was no let up in the protests, Rama Devi, who was in the Chair, adjourned the proceedings for the day after some papers and reports were laid on the table.

The Rajya Sabha, meanwhile, functioned for a total of 12 minutes, amid disruptions. After the laying of papers on the table, unruly scenes led Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to adjourn the proceedings 10 minutes after convening at 11 am.

When the House reconvened at 2 pm, the Opposition continued demanding for a JPC to investigate the allegations against the Adani Group. Dhankhar adjourned the House at 2.02 pm till 11 am on Wednesday.
