Kerala Speaker G Karthikeyan wants to quit post, join active politics

Karthikeyan said he had sought the permission of the party leadership for a go-ahead on his decision.

Kerala Speaker and senior Congress leader G Karthikeyan on Friday said he wanted to quit the post to return to active politics.

Addressing media, Karthikeyan said he had sought the permission of the party leadership for a go-ahead on his decision. “I am awaiting party’s permission in this regard. I am a political animal, I want to return to active politics,” said Karthikeyan, a day after the Assembly session was over.

Karthikeyan, whose name had been earlier suggested for the post of the party state chief, said he was informing the decision to the media to avoid controversy and speculations.

Karthikeyan’s  decision to quit the post of the Speaker comes close on the heels of the informal move for another round of Cabinet reshuffle.
