A policeman in Patna accidentally struck the local sub-divisional magistrate Wednesday while lathicharging a demonstration held in the city to protest the Supreme Court’s August 1 ruling allowing sub-classification of the Scheduled Castes for reservation.
The incident occurred at 12:30 pm, when 200 protesters from various Dalit organisations had gathered at the City’s Dak Bungalow square.

Although the errant policeman was reprimanded, no action was taken against him, police sources said.
The protest in Patna was part of a nationwide shutdown that Dalit and Adivasi organisations called to protest the Supreme Court ruling. The bandh was partially successful, with commercial vehicles plying after 1 pm. However, most schools and colleges were closed.
