PM Modi, Mamata Banerjee have deal to ‘defame’ Rahul Gandhi: Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the Congress has failed to fight the BJP and has a tacit understanding with the saffron camp in West Bengal, according to a senior TMC leader.

Congress MP in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have forged a deal to defame Rahul Gandhi and his party.

This comes after Banerjee said during an internal party meet on Sunday that the BJP is “trying to make a hero out of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to divert attention from the burning issues by stalling the parliament proceedings over his recent remarks in the UK”.

Mamata Banerjee is speaking on the directions of the PM. PM and ‘didi’ have a deal to defame the image of Rahul Gandhi and Congress. She wants to save herself from ED-CBI raids that’s why she is against Congress and with this PM will be happy,” Chowdhury said.

Banerjee had further alleged that the Congress has failed to fight the BJP and has a “tacit understanding with the saffron camp in West Bengal”.

In response, Chowdhury claimed it is the TMC which wants to help the BJP. “You (TMC) are fighting the BJP and maintaining equidistance from the Congress. This only reflects the true nature of the parties like the TMC, who are nothing but Trojan horses in the opposition camp,” he said.

Banerjee’s comment against Rahul Gandhi came amid repeated adjournments in the ongoing Parliament session over Gandhi’s remarks during his recent trip to the UK. The TMC had earlier announced that it would stay away from both the Congress and BJP and indicated possible talks with other regional players ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

Meanwhile, Chowdhury also claimed that over 2,000 workers of TMC and BJP from different parts of Murshidabad and Maldah districts have joined the Congress.
