PM Narendra Modi, while addressing the Indian diaspora at a community event in Kuwait, said that he was happy to see the diversity of people from India in the Gulf nation and called it a “mini-Hindustan”.
“Just 2–2.5 hours ago, I arrived in Kuwait, and ever since setting foot here, I have felt an extraordinary sense of belonging and warmth all around. You all have come from various states of India, but seeing you here feels like a ‘Mini Hindustan’ has gathered before me,” said PM Modi at the ‘Hala Modi’ event at the Shaikh Saad Al Abdullah Indoor Sports Complex.
Talking about the deep-rooted ties between India and Kuwait, PM Modi said, “India and Kuwait are located on two shores of Arabian Sea; it’s not just diplomacy that connects us, but also bonds of the heart.”
“We deeply value the historical connection with Kuwait that has been nurtured over generations. We are not just strong trade and energy partners but also have shared interest in peace, security, stability and prosperity in the West Asia region.”
“Relationship between India and Kuwait is one of civilisations, sea, affection, trade, and commerce,” PM added.
He also applauded the contributions of the Indian diaspora in the Gulf-country, saying he is here not just to meet the Indian community but to celebrate their achievements.
“Every year, hundreds of Indians come to Kuwait. You have added an Indian touch to Kuwaiti society. You all have come from different parts of India, but looking at all of you, it feels like a mini India has gathered here,” PM said.
“Today, personally, this moment is very special for me. After 43 years, more than four decades, a PM of India has come to Kuwait. For you all, coming to India takes four hours, but for the PM, it took four decades,” he said.
Noting their influence in crucial sectors, Modi noted, “Indian community’s doctors and paramedics are a major strength of Kuwait’s medical infrastructure. Indian teachers are helping shape Kuwait’s future generations. Whenever I speak to Kuwait’s leadership, they always praise the Indian community.”
PM Modi also drew parallels between Kuwait’s aspirations and India’s strengths, saying India has the skill, technology, innovation and manpower that ‘New’ Kuwait needs.
“Kuwait, through trade and innovation, wants to be a dynamic economy. India is also focusing on innovation and strengthening its economy. India has the skill, technology, innovation and manpower that ‘New’ Kuwait needs,” he said.
Earlier, PM Modi met Abdulla Al Baroun, who translated the Ramayana and Mahabharata into Arabic, and Abdul Lateef Al Nesef, who published their Arabic versions. The Prime Minister had previously mentioned their work in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address.
He also met 101-year-old Mangal Sain Handa, a retired Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer living in Kuwait, who had expressed his wish to meet the Prime Minister on social media.
PM Modi also said he is looking forward to his meetings with Kuwait’s Emir, Crown Prince, and Prime Minister. He will also attend the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup’s opening ceremony.
