In his first reaction to Telugu actor Allu Arjun’s arrest and subsequent bail in the Pushpa 2 stampede case, which left a woman dead, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan Monday said that the law “does not give preferential treatment to anyone”, news agency PTI reported.
The 35-year-old woman died following a stampede at Hyderabad’s Sandhya theatre during the premiere of Pushpa 2. Her son, who was critically injured, is currently hospitalised.
While asserting that he does not blame the police in the case, the Andhra deputy CM — whose elder brother Chiranjeevi is married to Allu Arjun’s paternal aunt, Surekha — said that the police will act while keeping public safety in mind.
However, Kalyan also criticised the theatre staff, saying they should have informed Arjun of any issues in advance, and asked him to vacate the premises if needed, NDTV reported.
He further said that the makers of ‘Pushpa 2 ‘ should have contacted the victim’s family members, while adding that this gesture would have stopped the situation from escalating, according to the PTI report.
