Roy was dismissed for his alleged "irresponsible behaviour" in performing organisational duties. (FB/ Samrat Roy)Barely four months after Samrat Roy, the president of the Tripura unit of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) was dismissed, he quit the youth wing of the Congress party on Saturday.
Speaking to the reporters, Roy said that he along with some NSUI members resigned from the party in absence of proper “evaluation” of their pro-student welfare activities.
Without naming anyone, Roy alleged that the Congress is controlled by a group of leaders who had allegedly thrown shoes at the portraits of former All India Congress Committee chief Sonia Gandhi and leader Rahul Gandhi.
He further alleged that central leaders meet the NSUI members for business and come back only before the Lok Sabha polls.
“Congress will cease to exist in the state,” said Roy.
When asked about their next move, Roy said, ” We shall discuss with everyone and then decide. We have not decided anything as of now. Talks are on with different political parties. Let’s see what happens.”
Roy was dismissed for his alleged “irresponsible behaviour” in performing organisational duties. Speaking on the issue, he said he was removed as he had supported a strike called by the Twipra Students Federation (TSF) – a tribal student body, in August this year over the demand of introducing the Roman script for the Kokborok language. Roy was issued a show-cause notice by the NSUI high-command for taking the stand.
Samrat Roy, who was appointed as the NSUI state president in 2021, had launched a series of movements during his stint, including demand for clearing pending scholarships of students, student admissions and others.
