When Uttarakhand BJP MLA Adesh Chauhan allegedly received a call from a person identifying himself as Jay Shah, the son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and demanding a “donation of Rs 5 lakh” for the party earlier this week, he thought nothing of it. That is, until he realised that he was being swindled.
In an FIR registered Sunday evening on behalf of Adesh Chauhan, an MLA from BHEL Ranipur in Haridwar, said the leader received a call from a man claiming to be Jay Shah at 12.30 am on February 14. The caller, according to the FIR, claimed that former BJP national president Amit Shah was busy with engagements in Delhi and had tasked him — along with Harish Nadda, the son of the BJP national president J P Nadda — with taking decisions for Uttarakhand.
“The caller claimed that Harish Nadda had spoken to him about the MLA and said that he expected financial contributions to the party fund, which had to be arranged by 5 pm on February 14 in Delhi.” Chauhan had then placed a call to Harish Nadda, who denied making any such requests, the FIR said. When the Man called the next day, the MLA replied that he had spoken to Harish Nadda. “Upon hearing this, the man abruptly disconnected the call,” the FIR said.
