UP: Samajwadi MLA booked for rape

Complaint filed by one Samreen Khan says the MLA had promised her a job and marriage.

A case of rape was on Friday registered against sitting Samajwadi Party MLA Anup Sanda, the police said.

“On a complaint by Samreen Khan,a case against Sanda under various sections of the IPC including 376 (rape),420 (fraud) and 506 (threatening to kill) has been filed and a probe is on,” Additional Superintendent of Police Ajay Shankar Rai said. The case was lodged with the Kotwali police.

Khan,a resident of Gabhadiya locality here, has alleged in the FIR that she was being subjected to criminal assault since the past three years by Sanda, who had promised her a job and whenever she had objected to it he had threatened to kill her. Sanda could not be immediately reached for comment.

The woman further alleged that the MLA had also promised her marriage and taken her to different places during this period.

She claimed the MLA had called her to his residence on May 17 but his wife allegedly framed her in a case of extortion and she was sent to jail. “My family has also deserted me because of the MLA,” she said.

The FIR against Sanda was lodged after a former SP MLA and Muslim League leader Safdar Raza threatened to stage a dharna before the residence of superintendent of police.
