Thomas sworn-in as CVC; BJP protests

59-year-old Thomas was administered the oath of office for a four-year tenure.

P J Thomas was on Tuesday sworn-in as the new Central Vigilance Commissioner amid BJP’s boycott and complaint to President Pratibha Patil over the manner in which the appointment of the officer with a “blemished record” was made to the Constitutional post.

59-year-old Thomas,the Telecom Secretary till now,was administered the oath of office for a four-year tenure by the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The brief function was attended by Vice President Hamid Ansari,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,Home Minister P Chidambaram,Law Minister M Veerappa Moily,Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar and Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah among others.
