SC agrees to grant conditional bail to Gujarat IAS

Court also asks him to to keep state authorities informed about his movement in the country.

Gujarat cadre IAS officer Pradeep Sharma,who is in jail for alleged irregularity in land allotment to private firms,was today told by the Supreme Court his plea for bail could be considered if he was willing to give an undertaking to abide by certain conditions.

A bench headed by Justice Aftab Alam said that it would pass the order after Sharma,who is in jail for the last 16 months,gives an undertaking that he will be present in the trial court on each hearing and he would report to local police station once in a week.

The bench also asked him to give assurance that he would not leave the country and would keep the state authorities informed about his movement in the country.

Sharma,who is accused of alleged irregularity in land allotment to private firms in Kutch district,moved the apex court against the order of Gujarat High Court which had dismissed his bail plea.

The 1984 batch IAS officer alleged he was being targeted by the Narendra Modi government because his younger brother Kuldip Sharma,a senior IPS officer in the state,has “unmasked” many misdeeds of Modi since the 2002 Godhra riots.

“The petitioner happens to be the brother of Kuldip Sharma who has unmasked many misdeeds of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah,the ex-Home Minister,since the 2002 Godhra riots.
