Muslim League involvement in blast can’t be ignored: Vijayan

CPM leader alleges involvement of a section of the Muslim League leadership in the recent bomb blast in Kozhikode.

The alleged involvement of a section of the Muslim League leadership in the recent bomb blast at the politically sensitive Nadapuram town in Kozhikode district that killed five persons “cannot be ignored”,Kerala CPI(M) today said.

CPI(M) state Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan alleged that the link between the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and certain extremist factions had come to light following the blast.

When asked if the NDF,a radical organisation, could have been involved in the incident Vijayan claimed,”It was they (NDF) who always had a close connection with the League.”

On a sarcastic note,Vijayan said,”Whether the conspiracy was hatched by Muslim League or a section of an extremist organisation which has close links with the League, has to decided by these two sections.”

Criticising the Congress,Vijayan said,”The stand taken by the Congress to support the Muslim League was ridiculous.” The probe into the bomb blast should bring to light the conspiracy aspect also,he said.

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan recently alleged that the Congress-led UDF Opposition was hatching a conspiracy to create violence during the forthcoming polls in the state.

Kerala government decided yesterday to form a special team of Kerala Police’s Crime Branch wing to investigate the blast, which took place on February 26 when the victims were making country bombs at Narikkatteri near Nadapuram town.

Three persons died on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries at a hospital.

The ruling CPI-M had alleged that IUML workers were behind the bomb-making,which,it alleged, was meant for creating violence during the campaign for the coming Assembly polls in the state.

Earlier this month, police had recovered several crude bombs concealed in a bucket, from the area.

Nadapuram and surrounding areas have been witnessing an uneasy calm amid continuing political tension between IUML and CPI(M) workers since the violent clashes during the local bodies polls in October last year and post-poll incidents.
