Wooing the electorates by invoking Tamil community plank,Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Sunday sought their support in the coming Assembly polls.
“I request you to continue your support to us… not in the name of the party but in the name of Tamil community and on the (performance of my) government,” he said inaugurating the first phase of Five Genetic Heritage Garden project via video-conference from the Secretariat.
“I am happy to take part in a function that would help future generations understand how the Dravidians in ancient days lived by classifying the land based upon its benefits,” he said.
Karunanidhi said he was happy to inaugurate the garden which forms as a beginning to his announcement made during the World Classical Tamil Conference held at Coimbatore last year.
At the valedictory of the World Classical Tamil Conference,Karunanidhi had announced that five Genetic Heritage Garden would be established in Tamil Nadu to commemorate the ‘International Year of Bio-diversity”.
Rajya Sabha MP and Agricultural Scientist M S Swaminathan was appointed as the Chairman of the project.
To glorify the land classification system as practiced during the Sangam period,five gardens named Kurinji,Mullai,Marudham,Neithal,Paalai were proposed for creation at five different places in the state at a cost of Rs 32.4 Crore at Yercaud,Sirumalai,Maruthanallur,Thirukadaiyur,Achadipirambu respectively.
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in five months.
