Cong wants MP govt not to adopt Bhagwad Gita but ‘secular’ curriculum

Cong says his party will not allow anything which disturbs the secular fabric of society.

Against the backdrop of Madhya Pradesh government’s move to include Bhagwad Gita in the school curriculum, the state Congress today said it was not opposed to the decision but wanted texts from other faiths be also taught.

“We are a secular nation and there is no way in which a text from any particular religion can be taught in any school in Madhya Pradesh,” state Congress Media Department Chairman Manak Agarwal said.

Clarifying that Congress was not opposed to teaching Bhagwad Gita,Agarwal said his party would not allow anything which disturbs the secular fabric of society.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday announced that the state government would include the teachings of Gita in educational curriculum.

Rebutting Chouhan,Agarwal said,”The chief minister should not talk of only teaching Gita but do something for introducing teachings from Quran,Granth Sahib and the Bible as well”.

The Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Ajay Singh yesterday charged the BJP government of trying to implement the RSS agenda.
