72.5% votes polled in Tuensang,voter dies during wait

A voter died in the queue before a booth,as elections to the Tuensang Sadar-I Assembly constituency marked 72.5 per cent voting of the 22,049 electorate in Tuensang district today,about 235 km from state capital.

In a straight fight between ruling Naga People¿s Front (NPF) L Elam Chang and Independent nominee Poyang Changkong Chang,the Congress backed out following the death of its candidate P. Chuba Chang on February 22.

Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer of Tuensang,T. Mhabemo Yanthan told PTI that the administration along with the police was on a strict vigil.

A total of 73 voter slips were seized from unauthorized persons while 56 persons,including 11 women were taken under custody for various electoral offences,he said.

Counting of the votes for the constituency would be taken up on March 26.
