Members of J&K Peace Forum, an organisation founded by Kashmiri Pandits, met prominent Kashmiri leader and cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday in a bid to advance the prospects of an inter-community reconciliation to pave the way for the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Union Territory.

In the meeting it was decided that steps would be taken for an inter-community consultation committee to revive the composite culture of Kashmir and ensure that all communities can live there in harmony.

“…Mirwaiz reaffirmed that the plight of Kashmiri Pandits is a humanitarian issue and must be addressed with care and urgency,” the forum said in a statement. “Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits.”

Satish Mahaldar of the J&K Peace Forum said the consultation committee would explore the possibility of designated colonies being set up in J&K for the safe return of the displaced. “We are Hindus but we have Kashmiri prefixed to our identity, and we are keen to nurture that identity,” he said.
