J&K Speaker forms House panel to probe ‘irregularities’ in Jal Jeevan Mission

Earlier during discussion on demand for grants to Jal Shakti among other departments, members alleged irregularities in implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission and requested the Speaker to constitute a House Committee.

J&K Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather Saturday announced the formation of a House Committee to look into alleged irregularities in the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) amid demands from members on both Treasury and Opposition benches.

On Saturday, when discussion of demand for grants to PHE (Jal Shakti), Forest, Ecology & Environment, and the Tribal Affairs Department began in the House, members from both sides demanded the formation of a House Committee. “I do not think that the minister (incharge Jal Shakti Department) shall have any objection to it,’’ Rather said.

NC MLA Mir Saifullah alleged that there has been a nearly `650 crore scam only in Kupwara district where, except for only one or two water supply schemes, all others are incomplete.

BJP’s Chander Parskash Ganga alleged that officers, without paying any heed to the issue of feasibility, tried to implement only those schemes which could have got them money.

Replying to allegations, Jal Shakti Minister Javed Rana said the UT has got only 50% of the funds under JJM and of this, nearly `3,000 crore has been spent on procurement of material including pipes.
