Jal Shakti is still awaiting the Cabinet to approve an extension of the scheme till 2028, and in the absence of such an approval, it was felt the entire budgeted amount could not be spent in the remaining 2-3 months of the financial year.

Earlier this month, The Indian Express reported that the Maharashtra Government informed the Legislative Council that it has not received central funds for the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme since October 2024 and has been using funds from the state’s coffers to complete the ongoing projects.
