Police and paramilitary forces have launched joint operation. (File/ Shuaib Masoodi)One militant was killed in an encounter with security forces after a terror attack at a house in Jammu and Kashmir’s Saida village in Kathua district on Tuesday.
The joint operation by police and paramilitary forces is in progress, a police spokesperson said.
Union Minister and Udhampur MP Dr Jitendra Singh said he was in “continuous online contact” with the District Commissioner of Kathua to monitor the situation.
Sources said militants forcibly entered the house and asked for water. The father and son, who were present in the house, ran away on seeing the militants who started firing on them.
In the meantime, Special Operation Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police reached the spot and engaged the militants. One of the militants was killed in a nearby nullah, sources said, adding the operation was in progress.
Reinforcements of security forces too have reached and cordoned the area.
While police were yet to confirm these details, Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh said on social media platform X that he was “in continuous online contact with DC #Kathua Sh Rakesh Minhas in the wake of terrorist attack on a house in village Saida in Hiranagar sector close to the International Border”.
Singh added that he was also in touch with SSP Kathua Anayat Ali Choudhary who is on the spot. He further said that “the owner of the house that was attacked is also in touch on mobile phone”.
Singh said along with him, his officers are also in constant touch and keeping a close watch on the developments.
This is the second militant attack in Jammu in two days. On Sunday (June 9), nine people were killed and 38 injured after a terror attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district. The deceased included seven pilgrims.
Since 2021, 38 soldiers and 11 civilians have been killed in militant attacks in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
