A 26-year-old Army Major allegedly committed suicide by shooting herself with her service pistol at her official residence inside the 92 Brigade Headquarters at Kaluchak near Jammu on Thursday night. Major Anita Kumari, 36, was from Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba and was posted at the Army’s Field Supply Depot at Bari Brahmana. Her husband, Kumar Anubhav, is a Delhi-based engineer, police said.

Station House Officer Yashpal Singh said, “The circumstantial evidence suggests it to be a case of suicide as the doors of her room were locked from inside.’’

Singh quoted Kumari’s family as saying that the officer was under depression due to some family dispute; she had separated from her husband around six years ago.
