Just a few weeks ago, in the wake of growing challenges faced by Indian citizens, including prolonged detentions and deportations at Mexico’s borders, the Embassy of India issued an advisory. (File Photo)The Indian national, who was traveling in the truck that came under fire by Mexican soldiers, remained unharmed, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday. Six people were killed and 10 were injured during the shooting incident.
The 33 who boarded the truck had Egyptian, Nepalese, Cuban, Indian and Pakistani nationalities. The truck came under fire from Mexican soldiers near the border with Guatemala, as per Mexico’s Defence Department.
“The Indian national concerned is safe and we are in touch with the Mexican authorities regarding his well-being,” said Randhir Jaiswal, MEA spokesperson. “India doesn’t support illegal migration and has signed migration and mobility agreements with several countries towards getting employment opportunities for our skilled youth,” he added.
