The Iftar was organised at the Sulabh International headquarters here with an aim to bring the widows into the mainstream of Indian culture.

“Widows taking part and organising an Iftar for our Muslim brothers and sisters, I think this is the first time such a thing has happened in India. And even the people from Balmiki community for the first time participated in such an event,” said Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of NGO Sulabh International.

“We have Muslim girls working for us here, they all keep ‘Roza’, so one of the girls asked for permission to break her fast by doing Iftar. I told her what is there to ask permission for? I told her let Sulabh organise it for you people,” said Pathak.

“Our moto at Sulabh is ‘Sulabh Sukhat Sansar’ and that will happen when we all live together in peace and harmony. So that is why we organised this Iftar,” he said.
