Three held for attempting to extort Rs 2 cr from Rohtak businessman

The Haryana Police on Tuesday arrested three people for allegedly attempting to extort Rs 2 crore from a Rohtak-based businessman.

The Haryana Police on Tuesday arrested three people for allegedly attempting to extort Rs 2 crore from a Rohtak-based businessman. The three include the victim’s business rival and two of the latter’s friends. Businessman,Sunil Goyal,had lodged a complaint with the police on Monday stating that he was repeatedly receiving phone calls,with the callers threatening to eliminate his children if he did not pay them Rs 2 crore.

Based on the complaint,a case was registered at police station-civil lines in Rohtak and a special team was formed to investigate the matter. Police then traced the mobile phone number,from which the calls were made,to a person in Delhi. Investigations led the team to Krishna colony in Rohtak,from where,Goyal’s business rival Puneet was arrested. His manager Gagan and his friend Ajay,who allegedly connived with him,have also been nabbed.

According to police,Puneet has confessed to having committed the crime during preliminary investigations. “All the accused will be produced in court on Wednesday. The complainant Sunil Goyal is a respected and prominent businessman; his family had been terrified since the extortion calls. Eventually,we succeeded in arresting the accused,” a Rohtak district police spokesperson said.
