This year, private schools to fill all seats reserved under RTE

So that all schools fill seats reserved under 25 per cent quota for children from economically weaker sections of the society in full capacity this time, the UT Education Department is planning to upload the child mapping survey data on its official website this month.

Last year,29 of the total 73 private schools in Chandigarh had failed to fill the 25 per cent reserved seats in full capacity, claiming that they did not receive enough applications under the category.

As the child mapping survey aims at identifying candidates eligible for free and compulsory education as per the provisions of the Right to Education Act,2009,the data will facilitate the schools in finding candidates to be admitted under reserved category, claim UT officials.

DPI(Schools),Sandeep Hans said,“Having reached consensus with private schools over proper implementation of RTE from this year,we have planned to upload the child mapping survey data online.”

“Last year, the schools complained of not being able to find enough candidates for admission under 25 per cent reservation. The survey data will serve the purpose of the private schools in conducting the admissions flawlessly as well as ensure transparency on the UT Administration’s part,” Hans added.

While the registration form for candidates applying for seats reserved under the 25 per cent quota remains the same as others,an additional document will have to be attached.

The document shall state that candidate’s name falls in the list of those approved to be belonging economically weaker and underprivileged section of society by UT social welfare department.

In a meeting with UT Education Secretary, about two weeks ago,the heads of all private schools had raised their concerns over the ‘per child expenditure’ to be borne by schools for those candidates admitted under the reserved category.

While the Administration has long been trying to settle the reimbursement amount of ‘per child expenditure’ to around Rs 1000,private schools contended that figure should be Rs 3500.

Since a consensus could not be reached over the matter in the last meeting, the Education Secretary has called another meeting with all private school heads on November 11.

The officials also informed that a fresh survey will be conducted this year in December for finding eligible candidates for free and compulsory education as per the provisions of the Right to Education Act,2009.
