The toll in the bus accident at Sirhind canal reached 15 after two more bodies were recovered on Sunday.

One of them has been identified as Raman Kumar,the conductor of the Punjab Roadways bus that plunged into the Bhakra canal at Sirhind on July 31. He was a resident of Batala.

The body of an unidentified woman was also found.

The total number of passengers in the bus could not be confirmed.

According to reports,nine bodies have been identified so far. Besides Raman,the bodies identified are those of bus driver Surinder Singh,Dr Brijesh Kumar,Neeraj Kumar,Ram Narayan,Jatin Bharti,Suresh Singh and Ashok Kumar.

Confirming the toll to be 15,Sirhind station house officer (SHO) S S Virk and other senior police officials said efforts were on to locate the other bodies.

The New Delhi-Amritsar bus had skidded off an overbridge and plunged into the canal in the wee hours of July 31. The accident took place near the Sirhind floating restaurant on National Highway No 1. The spot is about 50 km from Chandigarh and 35 km from Patiala.
