Shutdown in Valley observed peacefully

The shutdown was also observed in other parts of Valley where too the shops remain closed and public transport was not functional.

A complete shutdown was observed in Kashmir Valley against the government’s proposal to create “composite townships” in Kashmir Valley for Pandits. The shutdown call was given by separatist leadership, including Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and JKLF chairman Yasin Malik.

Fearing demonstrations, additional number of police and CRPF personnel were deployed in Srinagar and other parts of Valley. In Srinagar, while the government offices registered thin attendance, businesses establishments and educational institutes remain closed. Though the public transport remained off the roads, private vehicles plied normally.

The shutdown was also observed in other parts of Valley where too the shops remain closed and public transport was not functional.
