Reconstituting SIT not good at this stage: SC

The PIL, by advocate Fatima A, sought an order for reconstituting the SIT “to investigate complicity of Narendra Modi in post-Godhra riots”.

The Supreme Court Friday declined a plea to re-constitute the Special Investigation Team, which is probing the 2002 Gujarat riots cases, and also prohibit CM Narendra Modi from contesting polls till he gets a clean chit from the apex court.

“We cannot permit such prayers… Reconstitution of SIT at this stage is not good,” said a bench of Justices H L Dattu and S A Bobde while refusing to admit the PIL.

The PIL, by advocate Fatima A, sought an order for reconstituting the SIT “to investigate complicity of Narendra Modi in post-Godhra riots”. The plea cited the SIT probe into a complaint by Zakia Jafri, the wife of slain Congress leader Ehsan Jafri who had blamed Modi and others for the 2002 Gulburg Housing Society riot case of Ahmedabad.
