Normalcy was restored at the airport here with 130 flights taking off,a day after operations were hit following heavy rains that led to waterlogging and collapse of a part of the newly-built domestic departure terminal building.

“Flight operations have resumed this morning and about 130 flights have departed of which 36 from Terminal 1D,” informed Andrew Harrison,Chief Operating Officer of Delhi International Airport Limited.

“We have put our project management team on the job to rectify the affected area of the Terminal 1D,” he said.

The departure terminal (T1D) was flooded after some portion of the roof collapsed due to heavy rain and strong winds leading to waterlogging in the security area of the airport.

“Our team removed the water from the area last evening and made the terminal operational,” Harrison said.

Over 20 flights were delayed and 10 diverted to Lucknow and Jaipur as the airport area witnessed heavy downpour.

Domestic carriers operating from T 1D were forced to reschedule their flights as the boarding of aircraft became impossible after the security area was flooded and baggage X-ray machine failed.
