Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set another record on popular micro-blogging platform Twitter. He zoomed past the 15 million follower mark and pulled himself into the spot of second-most followed world leader on Twitter. He is also the third most-followed person on Twitter in India after Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.
Twitter has been a major medium for PM Modi to express his ideas and views on popular subjects. The platform has been a part of his active digital diplomacy initiatives.
In the last one year, PM Modi’s account has amassed 8.8 million followers — which is the largest increase in the number of followers in a 12-month period for an Indian account.
To this day, his tweet right after the 2014 Lok Sabha election victory remains the most re-tweeted tweet.
Other popular tweets were on the demise of former president APJ Abdul Kalam and the performance of the Indian team in the cricket world cup.
