‘Most students don’t know why they take admissions in courses’

Stating that today’s students had no vision in life,B B Singla,an Associate Professor in the School of Management Studies at Patiala’s Punjabi University,on Tuesday said more than 60 per cent of students enrolled in colleges and universities did not even know why they had taken admissions in their respective courses.

Stating that today’s students had no vision in life,B B Singla,an Associate Professor in the School of Management Studies at Patiala’s Punjabi University,on Tuesday said more than 60 per cent of students enrolled in colleges and universities did not even know why they had taken admissions in their respective courses. Singla was addressing business graduates at the two-day workshop on business etiquettes and professionalism that ended at the SCD Government College,Ludhiana on Tuesday.

At the meet,business experts urged the students to get noticed by their actions and innovations if they want to survive in the field. Priyaka Khanna,head of Khalsa College’s commerce department said unless students had etiquettes and were equipped with soft skills,they would be of no use to the business industry. Srikant a trainer at Punjab Infotech educated the students on email and telephone etiquettes.

Ashwani Bhalla ,Associate Professor in the Department of commerce of SCD Government College Ludhiana said the mobile phone had become the biggest issue of discussion these days. Receiving so many calls and attending each and every call and satisfying the customer has become the most important difficulty,he added. Bhalla gave the students certain tips to manage mobile technology.

Over the past two days eight resource people from the academia and industry interacted with the students in six technical sessions. With students being given the opportunity to deliver power point presentations,around 45 of them submitted such presentations for evaluation. Sponsored by the University Grants Commission under the Innovative scheme for Research and Development,the event saw the participation of eight resource people from the academia and industry,who interacted with the students in six technical sessions.

Jasbir Kaur Makkar,principal of SCD College delivered the valedictory address and expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the workshop and congratulated the faculty and students of commerce and business innovations department for their achievements.
